Dead Whale Found at Gordon's Bay Harbour

Dead Southern Right Whale Floating in Front of Gordon's Bay Harbour

Last Friday, a dead young Southern Right Whale was found by naval personal in front of Gordon's Bay Harbour. In the same week in Cape Town a Killer Whale beached itself and died after several rescue attempts failed. It is thought that a the Killer Whale in Cape Town was struck by a ship as it had a large bump on it's head. The cause of this young whales death is unknown. The carcass was towed into Gordon Bay Harbour where it was then taken to a dump site. It seems such a waste to dump the carcass, when it could have been towed to Seal Island for the many Great White Sharks to feast on. According to the report in the District Mail the last time a whale washed up in the area was over 10 years ago.
