The Avontuur Estate Restaurant Newsletter

Spring has sprung, the sun has ris, the bird is on the wing…? Yes, indeed spring has arrived and carpeted our beautiful Western Cape in a blanket of flowers. If you have been lucky enough to witness this natural wonder, you will know that 2011 has been one of our best years ever for flowers.

The Breakfast Club is going from strength to strength and our speaker, Dr Petro Janse van Vuuren who spoke on the ‘A,B,C’s of using your voice.’ What a powerful presentation, Dr Petro had our guests enthralled by her story telling abilities, how she regulated her voice and breath and how she gave clear , concise direction.

‘A’ is for ‘act’, she explained that  the faking it till you make it mentality, was one that she did not recommend. ‘Act’ your way through, in her opinion, and experience was the better method. ‘B’ is for breath. Deep belly breathing, is the secret to control and confidence. ‘D’ is for how to speak from your diaphragm not throat. She demonstrated this by using her voice to great effect.

The guests loved her presentation which culminated in her enthralling us with a recital of a poem she said at an Eisteddfod when she was a little girl. To find out more visit her website at www.playingmantis.net

November sees the Restaurant entering its 10th year at Avontuur. Little did we know that it would be so challenging, inspiring, rewarding and fun. We salute our loyal customers over the years that have stuck with us, and who have ultimately become friends.
We have seen weddings, christenings, every kind ofbirthday party imaginable, and we have also had some very sad good byes over the years.
To our chefs past and present, we say thank you for all the blood sweat and tears, for the late nights and early mornings, the many laughs. Our journey would not have been as rewarding without your input and dedication. A special note of thanks toGladys that has been with us from day one and who’s high standards, consistency and patience are daily reminders of a wonderful work ethic.
To our superb front of house team, we are constantly amazed at your friendliness and good humourwhen faced with challenges and the occasional unexpected drama. Our regulars know you by name, as you know theirs, and you have all put your personal stamp on our restaurant.

We are constantly reminded of our blessings as we go about our work on this magnificent estate.

To the Avontuur Estate, who are our most loyal supporters,Thank You, for giving two girls, who loved to cook, a chance all those years ago.
We will forever be in thankful to the late Tony Taberer for inviting us over. .

And of course a thank you would not be complete without thanking you, our guests and friends, that have walked this long road with us. We are ever grateful for your patronage and loyalty.

We look forward to the next decade at Avontuur.
