JOHANNESBURG - A man was arrested in Somerset West near Cape Town on Wednesday after he was found in possession of an estimated R250,000 worth of perlemoen, Western Cape police said.
The 45-year-old was caught after police received a tip-off that he was smuggling perlemoen into the town, Captain Frederik van Wyk said.
When members of the flying squad saw his car, they chased him. He abandoned the car and police caught him trying to run away.
Sixteen bags containing 1644 pieces of perlemoen were found in the car.
