Woman appears after baby dumped

A woman accused of dumping her newborn baby girl in a drain appeared in the Somerset West Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Western Cape police said.
Petronella Mosterd, 36, was charged with attempted murder, said Lt-Col Andrè Traut. The matter was postponed to November 8.
Residents in Macassar, outside Somerset West, found the baby abandoned in a drain at 7am on October 2. The girl was taken to Helderberg Hospital, where she was found to be in good health.
Mosterd, a single mother of three, was arrested on October 3. She has been released on bail.
The baby was in foster care, Traut said. - Sapa
