Alternative Building Earth Homes Should be Thought of in The Helderberg

With the huge increase in building materials, the cost of building an average 3 bedrooms home can amount to a few million these days depending on the finishes. South African's seem to be stuck in the conventional building mentality. I'm not sure if it is a habit or lack of direction coming from architects? My feeling is that we should embrace, simpler, greener, cheaper earth homes that could be built for a fraction of the cost. For example using straw bails, sand bags and other materials this combined with wind/solar heating and water wise gardens will certainly be the future so why not embrace it now?

What is your view about building homes with alternative materials?
