Baboons on the way to Rooi Els

Baboons on the way to Rooi Els

I went to see a client in Rooi Els today and what a beautiful day it was. The sea was flat, the sky blue. As I headed out on the scenic route I almost forgot that I was actually on my way to see a client, I mean how many people get to see this view on the way to work?

As I passed through Kogel Bay I came across a troop of baboons playfully running across the road. It was so cute to see all the mommy baboons with their new born spring babies clinging under their tummies. Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I see the beauty around the Helderberg and surrounding areas to make sure I'm not dreaming.

When you visit the area please don't feed them or come close to them as it causes huge problems and sometimes baboons have to be destroyed because of it, they can also be very aggressive.

  1. It seems that a large pod of dolphins has also made False Bay (Kogel Bay) their home. Dolphins used to be common on the Strand beaches during the 70's. They seemed to made a slow comeback after the banning of the trawlers in False Bay.
