A man in his early 30s was arrested for drunken driving after he knocked down two cyclists in Hermanus this morning. The two cyclists were taken to the Hermanus Medi-Clinic where they are in stable condition and one has being transferred to Vergelegen Medi-Clinic in Somerset West.
When police arrived at the scene they found the men lying on the ground and the suspect and his car were nowhere to be seen. The driver of the car only stopped about a 1km away, and then walked back and admitted to hitting the cyclists. The driver was arrested and was found to have been drunk. The drunken driver is expected to appear in the Hermanus Magistrate's Court on Monday.
