Five escaped prisoners still on the run

Acting Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer on Saturday said they are intensifying their search for five prisoners on the run.
The highly dangerous suspects who escaped from the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court on Friday are still at large and are believed to be in the Helderberg area.
Initially four detainees overpowered a guard and stole his firearm, before making their escape.
One of the four then hijacked a vehicle, but was later recaptured by police on the N2 highway near Spine Road.
It then emerged that a further two suspects escaped from the holding cells.
Lamoer said the escape shows cell guards need more training.
“Anything that we can do to improve security, we will do that.”
He added that there would be a full investigation into the matter.
