December 26 2010 IOL

Four men were arrested after an armed robbery in Cape Town on Sunday, Western Cape police said.

Captain Ezra October said the men fired two shots, one inside and one outside a shop in Loop Street in central Cape Town, and took an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers before fleeing the scene in a white Volkswagen Jetta.

He said a general description of the car was circulated and the Western Cape Flying Squad spotted the car driving in the direction of Somerset West.

“The vehicle with four occupants was pulled over near Vanguard Drive bridge, searched and two firearms with an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers were found inside the vehicle.”

The men were arrested for armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

They were due to appear shortly in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
