Drunken Driver highest record in Somerset West

The past weekend's alcohol blitz roadblocks across the Western Cape saw a total of 2 959 vehicles stopped as part of the Provincial Government's Safely Home Campaign.
Approximately 605 speeding offences were recorded.
A total of 828 drivers were screened for driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in 27 arrests, and 365 fines were issued.
The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in Somerset West at 1.49 mg/1 000 ml.
In Vredenburg, four people were arrested for the possession of dagga and one person was also apprehended for stock theft.
Two people were also arrested for the possession of tik in Beaufort West.
On Sunday morning, a 31-year-old man travelling from George to Knysna lost his life on the N2 outside Sedgefield. The man lost control of his vehicle, which then overturned and collided with a tree.
Our Safely Home integrated operations every weekend by Provincial Traffic, Municipal Traffic and SAPS are increasing safety on our roads and we also aim to ultimately change the behaviour of drivers to act responsibly and within the law at all times. It is clear that those who don't will face the consequences.
