Cops Find 4.5 million Stash of Illicit Cigarettes at the Interchange

Western Cape police arrested five people for being in possession of illicit cigarettes worth R4.5 million, a spokesman said on Friday."Custom Border Control received information about a delivery truck transporting illicit cigarettes and with the assistance of the K9 Unit they conducted a search at a storage facility in Interchange, Somerset West," said Warrant Officer November Filander."Police [sniffer dogs]... found 321 boxes with illicit cigarettes inside a delivery truck and two storage rooms with an estimated street value of about R4.5 million," said Filander.This happened around 11am on Thursday.The police arrested the truck driver, 44, and four other men aged between 21 and 34. "The five suspects will soon appear in the Somerset West Magistrate's Court, on charges relating to the Customs Act of illicit cigarettes," said Filander. - Sapa
