Cape Town police on Monday issued a warning alerting motorists to a new scam.
Criminals in Helderberg place a life-size doll on the side of the road making it look as though someone has been knocked down. When motorists slow down to help, they are attacked.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Tawana said, “They create a body like a doll and throw it on the road with the intention that if someone stops, they can be robbed or hijacked.”
A Strand resident was a victim of the crime last week but managed to get away safely. Tawana urged motorists to be alert at all times.
