The Justice Department has remained tight-lipped about an investigation into security at the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court.

Three of the six suspects who broke out of the court holding cells at the end of last week remain at large.

They escaped after stealing a guard’s pistol and his keys.

The Justice Department has declined comment, saying police are heading the investigation.

Police spokesperson Anneke van der Vyfer said the matter is high on their agenda.

“A formal departmental investigation has also been launched in this regard by the Station Commander of the Somerset West police station…,” she said.
