Police are confident three detainees who escaped from the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court will be rearrested this week. It has been about three weeks since they fled from the court’s holding cells, along with three other men.
One of them was rearrested and wounded during a police shootout shortly after he hijacked a vehicle and sped along the N1. Two more suspects were apprehended in Macassar a few days later.
The police’s Anneke van der Vyfer said they have reappeared in court.
“Two of the rearrested suspects have already appeared in court on charges of escaping from lawful custody as well as previous charges,” said van der Vyfer.
She said they were close to catching the remaining three suspects.
“Police are confident that we will soon be making arrests and we request the public to still come forward with information to assist police with investigations,” said van der Vyfer.
