GORDONS BAY:
At 15h35 NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Strand Beach slip way.
Lifeguards and Law Enforcement, including a Law Enforcement Marine boat had launched a search for an 18 year old man missing in the surf.
NSRI Gordons Bay launched a sea rescue craft. A sea rescue vehicle, the SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS, the Red Cross AMS Skymed rescue helicopter also responded.
On arrival on-scene it was determined that a 18 year old man and unconfirmed reports of a 14 year old girl had been swept out to sea.
Two lifeguards on paddle boards had initiated a search that was joined by Law Enforcement Marine officers on a rigid inflatable boat.
A Police helicopter that was in the area at the time assisted in a search.
Despite an extensive air, sea and shore search no sign of the 18 year old, from Eerste River, who is confirmed to have disappeared under water after being swept out to sea, could be found.
Unconfirmed reports of a 14 year old girl missing in the same area and in the same incident cannot be confirmed as no family have come forward to verify the reports.
A Police Dive Unit were activated and will take over a search operation. Police are investigating.
