Update:
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape traffic officials said one lane on Sir Lowry's Pass has been closed to traffic as they tried to retrieve a car that slid down the mountain side on Saturday.
Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said it is not yet known how many people are inside the delivery van.
Africa said heavy downpours hampered the rescue mission.
“Luckily there have been no injuries or fatalities.”
Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said officials across the province are on high alert.
He has urged motorists to be cautious.
“Public safety authorities have taken the necessary caution over the weekend after weather forecast warnings were issued.”
